Welcome to the Genetess V1.00 Rules Startup.

When a new game of Genetess V1.00 is prepared for play, a skeleton view of the board will be posted on this website, along with information on the number of players required before the game can start. Players can simply sign up for the new game by e-mail, and just need to provide a nickname for their participation in the game.

The website page for the game will also specify all the specific rules that do or don't apply to that particular game.

A Genetess V1.00 game will only actually start once all the required spaces have been filled, sometimes this will mean that all available starting spaces have been signed up, sometimes just that a minimum number of players has been reached. As soon as one game starts, another skeleton board will be posted for the next game. This means there will always be a game available for joining, but there may be a short wait until it actually starts.

The first round in every Genetess V1.00 game (round 0) is used to determine who starts where, and in which order players will make their moves for all other rounds. There is no order of play in round 0, all orders are processed simultaneously.

At the beginning of round 0 all players will be told how much E they have to start the game with. Their orders in round 0 consist of three bids using none, some, or all of this E - the first bid is for starting position, the second for the order of play, and the third for what colour they want to be (yes it does seem to matter to some).

The bid for starting position involves placing all the starting positions shown on the board (refered to as K1, K2, K3, .....) in an order of preference with the most liked first, and then deciding how much E to gamble on the prefered order. Gambling more E increases the chance of obtaining a preferred starting position, but reduces the amount of E left for bidding for the order of play, colour, and then the first round of the game. In most games there will be the same number of starting positions as players.

The bid for order of play involves placing all the possible places from 1st to nth in an order of preference with the most liked first, and then deciding how much E to gamble on the preferred order. Once again gambling more E increases the chance of obtaining a preferred starting position, but reduces the amount of E left for gambling for colour, and the first round of the game.

The bid for colour involves placing all the possible colours from in an order of preference with the most liked first, and then deciding how much E to gamble on the preferred colour. Colours will be named to make them easy to refer to. Again, gambling more E increases the chance of obtaining a preferred colour, but reduces the amount of E left for the first round of the game. The colours available to players in a game of Genetess V1.00 Original are limited by those that appear unique on all player's systems, and are shown in next diagram.

The picture below shows an example board that could be posted for a new game. The example board is for 4 players and has 4 starting positions marked in blue on the board as K1, K2, K3, and K4. The board also has 4 special squares marked on the board as red X's. The exact nature of special squares is never known but they are always of some potential benefit to players so starting near them can be an advantage.

Assuming there are 4 players in our example game each starting with 10E, the round 0 orders sent in by these players could look as follows :-

Player 1 - Gamble 2E on K1, K4, K3, K3
Player 2 - Gamble 0E on K4, K3, K2, K1
Player 3 - Gamble 0E on K3, K4, K1, K2
Player 4 - Gamble 0E on K1, K4, K2, K3

Player 1 - Gamble 1E on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th
Player 2 - Gamble 3E on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th
Player 3 - Gamble 0E on 4th, 3rd, 2nd, 1st
Player 4 - Gamble 2E on 2nd, 3rd, 1st, 4th

Player 1 - Gamble 0E on GPC1, GPC2, GPC6, GPC3
Player 2 - Gamble 0E on GPC3, GPC6, GPC2, GPC1
Player 3 - Gamble 1E on GPC3, GPC6, GPC1, GPC2
Player 4 - Gamble 0E on GPC6, GPC2, GPC1, GPC3

Due to the symetry of the board, players 2, 3, and 4 have decided it is not worth spending any of their E on a preferred starting position so they simply gamble 0E. Player 2 appears to be keen on moving first in each round, and player 3 appears not to be bothered when in each round they move so has gambled 0E. Only player 3 seems at all bothered by which colour they are so has gambled 1E on the purely asthetic choice of colour.

The results from these example gambles would actually be :-

Player 1 starts from K1, moves 3rd in each round, and starts round 1 with 7E playing GPC1
Player 2 starts from K4, moves 1st in each round, and starts round 1 with 7E playing GPC6
Player 3 starts from K3, moves 4th in each round, and starts round 1 with 9E playing GPC3
Player 4 starts from K2, moves 2nd in each round, and starts round 1 with 8E playing GPC2
