Welcome to the Genetess V1.02 Rules Rounds page.

Every game of Genetess is logically split into a structure of rounds and turns. Rounds are depicted using an integer number starting at 0, and turns are depicted by a lower case letter starting at a.

As has already been mentioned in the Startup section of these rules, round 0 is special in that it does not consist of a series of turns. Apart from round 0, every round has one turn for each player. So for example a 4 player game would have a round and turn structure of :-

Round 0
Round 1a
Round 1b
Round 1c
Round 1d
Round 2a
Round 2b
Round 2c
Round 2d
Round 3a ... etc.

but a 3 player game would have a round and turn structure of :-

Round 0
Round 1a
Round 1b
Round 1c
Round 2a
Round 2b
Round 2c
Round 3a ... etc.

Because the order of play is fixed through a game once determined in round 0, every player will move on a fixed turn during each round, e.g. if green moves on round 1b, they will also move on 2b, 3b, 4b, etc.

After the round 0 gambles (which are explained in the startup section of the rules) every turn starts with all players being sent an Excel workbook containing their turnsheets. The e-mail and workbook will be named to indicate whether they have been sent their turnsheets because it is them to move, or whether it is someone else to move and the turnsheets are just for their information.

If it is your turn to move and you do not have a stored move the e-mail will look like this.

If it is your turn to move and you have a normal stored move the e-mail will look like this.

If it is your turn to move and you have a special stored move marked with the * character (which means it will be processed immediately - see the Submitting Orders page of the rules for more details) the e-mail will look like this.

If it not your turn to move the e-mail will look like this. Note that you can elect whether or not to receive e-mails when it not your turn. Simply e-mail me to switch this option on or off for each game. When you join Genetess this will by default be switched on so you always receive these e-mails, but you can also change this default if you wish so you will not receive them in new games unless you ask to.

The attachment in the e-mail will be a single Microsoft Excel 2002 Workbook containing 5 spreadsheets. The first of these is the Status worksheet which shows you the order of play, who is which colour, who has been timed out, your E total and piece count from all previous rounds, and then for the current round your E total, your piece count, your Kings counts, your points total, your stored move, and the amount of holiday you have remaining to use in this game. An example of the Status worksheet is shown next.

The second worksheet is the Map worksheet which show you your current view of the board. An example of the Map worksheet is shown next.

The third worksheet is the Parameters worksheet which shows the specific parameters that apply to this game of Genetess.

The fourth worksheet is the Piece Cost Calculator worksheet which allows you to easily calculate the cost of any Genetess piece.

The fifth worksheet is the Skeleton Map worksheet which shows you the starting positions on the board, and the original layout of the interior walls. An example of the Skeleton Map worksheet is shown next.
