Welcome to the Genetess V1.02 Rules Board page. The following picture shows a small Genetess game board midway through the game. This is the view only available to the game administrator.

Each of the components on the board is now described.

Outer Wall
The outer black wall completely encloses the Genetess board, and no pieces can be created or move outside its permieter.

Interior Walls
The interior walls are indistinguishable from the outer wall on a Genetess board apart from the fact that they could be removed without allowing pieces to move outside the board area. Interior walls can be created, destroyed or moved by various special effects during the game.

Special Squares
Special squares are recorded using cell comments in Excel. This means they appear on the map as a small red triangle in the corner of the square they apply to. Their contents can be read (in Excel - not on this page as I am simply using pictorial references) either by hovering the mouse over them, or right clicking on the square and selecting edit comment from the context menu that is displayed.

Pieces
Pieces are indicated using the colour for each player and the genetic sequence for each piece. Only the game administrator's map usually shows all pieces. The view each player has of the map differs depending on the location and genetic sequence of their pieces. For example the four players in this game will each receive the following view of the board.

Note that the red player is able to see the genetic codes in the yellow player's pieces because his ADDF piece contains the F (decode) genetic code.

Fog Of War
The individual maps viewed by the players usually also contain grey squares. These are fog of war squares out of view of any of that player's pieces. Note that a player's view in the fog of war is taken from the base map for the game including the initial location of interior walls. It is therefore possible that the interior walls in the game may have changed without the player's knowledge if they are unable to see that area of the board.
